About Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapists consider each individual to be biochemically unique and recommend personalized nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. To achieve optimal health and wellbeing the many inter-connected systems in your body need to work in harmony together. Using science-based biochemistry and physiology, Nutritional Therapy can help you achieve optimal health and wellbeing by balancing these body processes.
Nutritional therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards maintaining health. Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing.
Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional.
What to expect
An initial consultation will last for 1 ½ hours. You will be given a Nutritional Assessment questionnaire in advance and be asked to complete a food diary. I will take a comprehensive health history and discuss your health goals, family history, symptoms, diet and lifestyle and using evidence-based science will design an individualised programme tailored to your own specific requirements that is personalised, safe and effective and most of all – unique to you, with meal ideas and recipes that will fit your lifestyle.
Laboratory testing may be used to help identify underlying issues and to provide more specific and effective recommendations.
Follow up consultations are usually after 4 weeks and will last for 45 minutes. These will look at progress since the previous consultation and adapt the programme as necessary to help you achieve your goals. Email support is available between consultations, should you have any worries about the nutritional therapy programme. The number of follow ups required will vary depending on individual circumstances.
The initial consultation is charged at £120.00. This will include all the additional research carried out before and after your consultation as well as email support should you need it. Follow up consultations are charged at £60.00.

It also helps to provide a health timeline of the events in your life. Using a Functional Medicine approach involves a very detailed case history and a timeline helps establish root causes that underly illness. Please give as much detail as you can on life events, particularly stressful ones, such as traumatic birth, being separated from parents, significant childhood illnesses, medical interventions, moving home, when various symptoms began, marriage, pregnancies, births, divorce, bereavement. The more detail provided the more beneficial the process will be. Put down anything you feel may be relevant.
Finally, complete the diet and lifestyle diary. This helps plan a personalised protocol that will fit with where you are at right now and the specific challenges you currently face in your daily life.

Based on the information on your questionnaire, I will work with you to build a full case history. This covers your genetic predispositions, events in your life, and health challenges you have faced from birth onwards. All these factors help put the pieces of your puzzle together to identify any biochemical imbalances that are driving your symptoms.
If you are dealing with complex health issues and need follow up consultations, these are usually after 4 weeks, although if you are waiting for lab results, it is best to wait until the results are back.
If you have been given a supplement programme, it is recommended that you have this reassessed at least every 3 months. This is because supplements are recommended as a therapeutic intervention to address imbalances, rather than as ongoing substitution for a healthy diet. Once balance has been restored it is expected that those supplements will no longer be necessary. This is particularly the case when supplementing nutrients in isolation to address deficiencies, as nutrients need to be balanced and once a deficiency is corrected, excess of that nutrient can lead to deficiencies in others.
